There is an extraordinarily clever poem about bad church music entitled Dies Irae zipping around the Web these days. It begins,
Day of wrath, O day of mourning!
Earth to ashes now returning!
Gather, by the millions, burning!
Cleansed at last by cataclysm
Butchered rhyme and battered rhythm,
It is being published without attribution, and that needs to be set right. The poet is Anthony Esolen. It originally appeared on this blogsite and was republished in Touchstone's January/February, 2006 issue, page. 6.
(Tony didn't ask me to write this, but friends don't let friends suffer anonymity for good work.)
