Hitchens Book Review
Judy Warner sent me this link to Benjamin Wiker's review of that book by Christopher Hitchens. Which reminds me, I've wondered why Hitchens hasn't legally changed his first name....

Alas, my filter block the link as a "spam email link." The question about Mr. Hitchens' name is, however, quite interesting.

Wiker's is one of the better reviews of Hitchens' book that I've come across. Better, insasmuch as it reproduces Hitchens' own strategy of picking out the weakest link in an argument and skilfully unloading two hundred pounds of ridicule on top of it.

Here's another good one. I like the fact that Piatak isn't deferential.

Mr. Grano,
Thanks for your kind words and for pointing out my review of Hitchens' book.
No, I am not deferential to Hitchens. There is, in fact, entirely too much deference to him. What has Hitchens done to earn such deference? This is a man who has cheered on the Communist mass murder of Christians, delivered a drunken tirade against Mother Teresa during ABC's coverage of her funeral, written scathing columns attacking John Paul II and Mother Teresa on the occasion of their deaths, and regularly lies about the Catholic Church and Catholics.
Yes, Hitchens is a facile and fluid writer. But he often gets his facts wrong, as I point out in my review of his atheist manifesto, and on the most important question of all, he could not be more wrong.

My pleasure, Mr. Piatak. I hope a lot of folks read it!
