Planned Parenthood has a new marketing strategy for their abortion services: the cross of Jesus. According to a report in the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader, Planned Parenthood's national chaplain, United Methodist Ignacio Castuera is traveling the heartland seeking clergy to support Planned Parenthood's "pro-choice" agenda. As you might imagine, not too many are falling for it. Castuera says he's not shocked by the lack of response.
"The closer Jesus got to the cross, the smaller the crowds got," he said. "This is pretty close to the cross because people have to take derision, ostracism, all that."
When Planned Parenthood claims a constitutional right to abortion in the United States Constitution that is one thing. When the group claims the cross as its own logo, that's even worse.
But, then again, maybe it is not altogether inappropriate.
Planned Parenthood, after all, needs an emblem that represents cruelty, suffering, and death in order to prop up the political ambitions and economic well-being of a vast and ruthless corporation. The cross just might be the emblem they need. Let's just make sure we realize that the cross they wave is the decreed crucifixions of the Roman prelate; not the death-destroying sacrifice of the Nazarene carpenter.
Planned Parenthood should use the "Hooked Cross" (Hakenkreuz)...

Very fitting indeed. Good comments. Some of us who regularly meet at the Abortion Facility in Midland Texas have thought about advertising that we would kill a puppy at the clinic - 'Every puppy, a loved & wanted puppy' would be our slogan. We figured if we advertised it we'd have hundreds come to stop us - more love for puppies than babies! [for those who might panic at this - no, we're not going to really do it].

I have no problem with pro-abortion people, even those who make big bucks off of it, seeking to persuade others that abortion should be legal in a pluralistic society. But to try to enlist Jesus in Planned Parenthood's effort to turn abortion into our country's greatest good, as Castuera is doing, is repulsive. And I love the logic of comparing the pro-abortion effort with Jesus: "This is pretty close to the cross because people have to take derision, ostracism, all that." By that standard, Nazis and Klansmen are "pretty close to the cross," since there are few people more ostracized in America. The only saving grace in this "clergyman" being chaplain for Planned Parenthood is that at least he isn't screwing up some poor congregation with his celebration of death.

Isn't the United Methodist Church George W. Bush's church?
Just asking.
Of course, if I'm right about that in my recollection, it does beg the question, why are Bush's "Christian" credentials, which many evangelicals, trad-Caths and also many in my circles (trad-Calvs) accept carte blanche, not questioned? (By most in those groups anyway, though not all...)

Rev. Philliber: too bad you're not going to do it (i.e. advertise that you're going to, but not actually do it, of course! LOL...) People's reactions would be very telling, wouldn't they?
Recall, the Nazis were very sentimental about animal rights, too...
