One last item for tonight. From Christianity Today's website, the results of a poll on the question "Should Christians use the birth control pill?"
- Yes, the Bible doesn't speak against it: 30%
- I've never thought otherwise: 14%
- No, Natural Family Planning is the way to go: 14%
- No, the pill can act as an abortifacient: 11%
- I'm not sure: 9%
- No, fertility is a blessing to be embraced: 9%
- Yes, if they plan on having children eventually: 5%
- It's better not to; it has bad side effects: 5%
- Yes, for health reasons: 4%
I was slightly surprised and cheered to find that 23% said no to contraception. (The 5% who say no because the pill has side effects and the 11% who recognize its abortifacent effects oppose one method but apparently not contraception in principle.) I would have thought that the percentage would be much lower.
