On Off the Record, Catholic World News weblog, the great Diogenes writes on the Philip Longman article discussed below in The Outbred. (Looking at the word now, it probably needs a hyphen between "Out" and "Bred," but these things get written on the fly.) He writes, in The Liberal Baby Bust, of a matter Longman doesn't cover:
Longman asserts the notion -- which common-sense supports -- that by raising their offspring in an offspring-friendly environment begetters tend to beget begetters. What he doesn't touch on is the possibility of converse causality: that married couples who raise more than two children in these times, whatever their inherited ideology, will encounter hardships and animosities of a sort that tend to push them away from the progressivist mindset -- which is notoriously offspring-averse.
He also writes about liberal Catholicism's effect in these matters, which is not good but also naturally self-destructive.
