Benedectine monk and professor of anthropology Mark Gruber will be speaking on "The Monastic Desert and the Ecumenical Impulse" at St. Paul Monastery in Canfield, Ohio (near Akron) on Tuesday, September 9th. The lecture is sponsored by the Youngstown branch of the Society of St. John Chrysostom.
The lecture, subtitled "How desert spirituality may provide a deeper communal discourse among apparently divided Christians," is being given by someone who spent a year with Coptic hermits in the Egyptian desert and now teaches anthropology at St. Vincent's College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
