Here's a short rundown on the late Ted Kennedy's "mixed Catholicism" by Jacqueline L Salmon at the Washington Post on-line. I found it odd to mention how he lived out his faith by championing Catholic causes such as, among other things, "suspicion of war." She is right up front about his NARAL rating. Of course, "mixed Catholicism," when catholic means "according to the whole" is somewhat on par with "mixed orthodoxy." Sen. Edward Kennedy, RIP, Kyrie Eleison.
"Mixed Catholicism"? Maybe they meant "Missed Catholicism."

Would that the Catholicism of his recently passed sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, been the Catholicism of the entire Kennedy family and may her example ignite a greater devotion to our Lord and to doing His will in all of us. May God be merciful to Edward M. Kennedy and to us all.

I was reading the comment thread that James Kushiner hyper-linked to. Senator Kennedy was certainly a polarizing figure among American Catholics.
I also learned in the comment thread that Hitler was a baptized Catholic. I didn't know that. But then again, I'm not as well-read as many of the regular commenters on this blog.

I think a dilemma many American Catholics have w/ Ted Kennedy types is that in raw number of issues, they probably do line up with more Catholic social justice teachings, but the two or three they miss happen to be two or three of the most critical.

If memory serves, Hitler was a baptized Catholic but consciously rejected his Catholicism when he was in his teens.

I'd reckon about 10% of the Teddy Kennedy story had anything to do with the Catholic faith. The other 90% seemed diametrically opposed. That's my perception...I hope it's wrong. Kyrie Eleison indeed!

Hitler was a baptized Catholic
Which is another way of saying: "Hitler was born in Austria in the 19th century". Apart from the somewhat antisemitic atmosphere shared in common with Lutheran Germany, not exactly a significant correlation for genocidal tendencies!
