Come Clean, Francis Collins

I've been wanting to comment on the announcement by the NIH director Francis Collins earlier this week about using embryos for stem cell research. I needn't bother, now that Al Mohler has written this.

Collins on Faith and the Human Genome*:

"The elegance and complexity of the human genome is a source of profound wonder. That wonder only strengthens my faith, as it provides glimpses of aspects of humanity, which God has known all along, but which we are just now beginning to discover."

Discover by destroying all that God-given elegance, apparently.

Perhaps Dr. Collins should consider these words of St. Thomas:

It is clear that not every kind of ignorance is the cause of a sin, but that alone which removes the knowledge which would prevent the sinful act. . . . This may happen on the part of the ignorance itself, because, to wit, this ignorance is voluntary, either directly, as when a man wished of set purpose to be ignorant of certain things that he may sin the more freely; or indirectly, as when a man, through stress of work or other occupations, neglects to acquire the knowledge which would restrain him from sin. For such like negligence renders the ignorance itself voluntary and sinful, provided it be about matters one is bound and able to know.
