Many may not be familiar with Dennis Kinlaw, the former president of Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, and the founder of the Francis Asbury Society, which is committed to the spread of scriptural holiness via evangelism, retreats, and scholarly publications.
I've heard him teach, and he is good; we've published one of his articles, Sacred Pedagogy: How & What We Learn About God from the Family.
At long last, he has published a book from his recorded classroom lectures given at Asbury Theological Seminary in 1993. It is Lectures in Old Testament Theology—Yahweh is God Alone. The first edition is cloth and signed and can be bought directly here. A paperback edition will follow. From the website:
Although this is graduate level material Dr. Kinlaw’s unique communication gifts make it accessible to the average layman. The other day a sincere Christian told me that he avoided the Old Testament because it frightened him. It raised more questions than he could answer and sometimes he felt his faith was shaking. I thought to myself, “If he will just read this book Dr. Kinlaw will give the Old Testament back to him.”
I wish more people were aware of the ministry of Dr. Kinlaw. In his late 80's now, his time is short. I hope that there will be more books coming from him or FAS, the organization he heads.
Frankly, in his younger years, I think there were few who could equal him as a preacher. He brought a scholars mind, a passion for God, a good sense of humor and a commanding presence to every message. In addition, he seemed to have a wealth of illustrations I never heard anywhere else with which to hammer home a point.
He has been and remains a treasure to the church, I believe.
