Supernatural, superhuman strength

This horrific story of a parishioner in Italy tearing out his eyes during Mass quotes a physician as saying that it would take superhuman strength to do what he did. The man said "voices" told him to do it, and he did. Most modern people, reading something like this described as a demonically-inspired act in a medieval or ancient text, would consider it one of those medieval fabrications that modern folks are no longer susceptible to. Lord, have mercy.
